IC Information
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Character: Alisaie Leveilleur
Canon point: A few weeks after the conclusion of patch 6.0
Canon intensity: FFXIV is a T-rated fantasy game. Frequent dark themes including interpersonal violence, war and trauma stemming from it, suicide, and sexual assault, but most violence is non-graphic or offscreen. Very minimal blood and gore are visible onscreen, though body horror is not uncommon. Major and minor character death happen with some regularity; this has decreased somewhat over time. Alisaie personally has witnessed the death of several loved ones (and, in some cases, been involved in their deaths) and has struggled at times to remain hopeful in the face of tragedy. The game’s tone is, while often dark, optimistic about what can come from traumatic events and grief.
World information: A very typical Final Fantasy blend of magic and technology. Alisaie herself is from one of the world’s centers of magical and scientific learning and is a skilled mage. While more modern technology (magitek) is primarily the domain of a separate location in the setting, Alisaie and most other characters from her world are familiar with it. Certain technology will still be foreign to her, and she does not have much direct experience operating magitek machinery so she has minimal understanding of its function.
Character biofacts: Age at start of canon is 16, I am playing her at 21. She is a woman and an Elezen (basically elves: pointed ears, elongated features, and a slightly increased lifespan compared to humans, though much less so than a Tolkien elf - more on the scale of decades rather than centuries). Probably more comfortable rooming with girls/women, but not particularly fussy about it at the end of the day.
About the character: (This is a combination history and personality section. In broad strokes, who is your character? Minimum 500 words)

Alisaie Leveilleur spent her early life in Sharlayan - a nation of scholars, governed by an extreme policy of nonintervention in the affairs of other nations, even should aid be requested. She and her twin brother Alphinaud were raised in wealth and privilege, coming from one of the oldest and most prestigious families in the nation. Together, the two of them were celebrated as prodigies: the youngest students ever to attend Sharlayan’s university, the Studium. But neither of them was quite what others expected (or perhaps wanted). Alphinaud developed his skills in speech and debate, aspiring to become a diplomat or politician, while Alisaie studied combat magicks, Both shared a close relationship with their grandfather Louisoix, a man celebrated in the game’s primary setting of Eorzea for his heroism, but a much more controversial figure in his homeland. Because Louisoix had done the unthinkable: when a world-ending catastrophe loomed on the horizon, he traveled to Eorzea in a last-ditch attempt to protect its people. He intervened. His parting words to his son Fourchenault, the twins’ father, struck a chord with both of them: “To ignore the plight of those one might conceivably save is not wisdom, it is indolence.”

Eorzea was saved - mostly. Thousands died in the “Calamity” Louisoix tried to avert when the warlike Garlean Empire brought the lesser of Eorzea’s two moons Dalamud down on Eorzea and unleashed the dragon within. Bahamut, a dragon the size of a city, wreaked massive destruction until Louisoix sacrificed his life to bind it. Man and dragon disappeared, and the truth of what he did to defeat Bahamut was lost.

At the start of the game, five years have passed since the Calamity, and the twins are determined to follow in their grandfather’s footsteps and find out what about this realm led him to give his life in saving it. They arrive and meet the protagonist together, but their paths quickly diverge. Alphinaud, the diplomat, seeks to join the Scions of the Seventh Dawn, the “secret” organization founded by Louisoix which has just recruited the person who will come to be known as the Warrior of Light. Alisaie, who when the player first meets her is quiet and aloof, is determined to find her own way. She splits with her brother after a fight and, from there, vanishes almost entirely from the main plot until the conclusion of A Realm Reborn. Her reappearance is prompted by a horrifying roar from below while the leaders of Eorzea are celebrating their major victory over the Garleans. If the player chooses to investigate this sound, they will meet the person who has recruited them to assist: Alisaie. She reveals that she has been working in secret to learn the truth of the Calamity, and she wants their help.

Together the two of them - and eventually Alphinaud, because he is just as desperate for answers as his sister - descend beneath the surface of the planet and discover that some force is reconstructing Bahamut. Because Bahamut, while in the shape of a dragon, is a primal, and primals are sustained by the belief of their followers. Not only the dragons who summoned him centuries ago, still kept in agonizing suspended animation and praying for succor, but the twisted remains of the Garlean commander who spearheaded this operation, and finally Louisoix himself. Something went horribly wrong after the two disappeared from the battlefield, and Louisoix has fallen under the primal’s influence. He taunts the twins, mocking their care for him - but after a final confrontation where the two are forced to lay him to rest once and for all, the dragon releases its grip on his mind long enough for him to explain and say goodbye. His initial effort to bind Bahamut had failed, but the prayers of everyone across Eorzea, channeling their desperate hope to survive, had made him into a primal. The undying Phoenix, powerful enough to contain Bahamut if not to destroy it. With his final words, he reminds the twins that he loves them and commends Alisaie for her newfound resolve. She isn’t just following in his footsteps anymore; she has come to care for the world and its people and will fight to preserve them.

Following these events, which remain a secret known to only a few within the Scions, Alisaie once again departs on her own journey. She is absent for the remainder of A Realm Reborn and most of Heavensward, though she does still aid the protagonist from afar (even when she is avoiding involvement with the Scions, her brother and the Warrior of Light are not far from her thoughts).

Alisaie commits to joining the Scions after a near-fatal injury puts her back in contact with them. On her travels her resolve has deepened, her independence has grown, and she has lost another close friend. When she joins the Scions in combat, she no longer wields the grimoire given to her by Louisoix (one of a matched set with Alphinaud’s), instead channeling her own aether through it to forge a rapier.

She grows closer to the Scions, and in particular to the Warrior of Light, throughout the Stormblood expansion as she travels with them. Her sharp wit and quick thinking both cause and get them out of sticky situations. It is here that her reckless streak becomes truly apparent, but alongside it comes a fierce loyalty to the people she loves. She argues with (and wins over) pirates, fights off a horde of attackers alone, and generally worries the hell out of her friends.
After they free the nations of Ala Mhigo and Doma from imperial rule, it seems like the Scions might finally get a chance to rest. But one by one, they begin falling unconscious and do not wake. Alphinaud departs for the Garlean Empire on an attempted diplomatic/reconnaissance mission and comes back comatose, carried in the arms of his companions. Alisaie is frantic, terrified that she will once again be abandoned. She tells the Warrior insistently, “Don’t you dare leave me alone,” but then she, too, falls. It is the Warrior who remains alone.

Their souls have been taken to another world entirely. A dying world, one of thirteen “reflections” of their own. The First, almost completely overtaken by Light. People still live here, doing their best to survive, but it is a desperate and painful existence. Alisaie is initially furious with their summoner for separating her from the Warrior when they needed her most. He is trying to call them across as well, a final hope for this world, but Alisaie will not let herself be idle while she waits. Instead she immediately finds a place to help: a sort of hospice for people slowly succumbing to the Light’s corruption. She works as a bodyguard there, befriending the patients along with a particular carer, a young woman named Tesleen. The two grow close, Alisaie telling her stories about the Warrior of Light’s heroic deeds (though Tesleen’s admiration for Alisaie in particular is clear). But just as the Warrior is successfully summoned and comes to visit Alisaie, a crisis strikes the inn. It is attacked by Light-corrupted monsters and Tesleen succumbs to the Light when she is struck down protecting a child. She transforms, crying out in agony, right in front of Alisaie. Once again, she has survived when a loved one has not. She leaves the inn with the Warrior, determined to help find a way to save this world before she has to lose anyone else.

During this frantic search Alisaie’s deep-seated fear of losing the people she loves comes to the forefront. The Warrior comes dangerously close to being corrupted, and in her fear and despair Alisaie lashes out at the other Scions, angry with them and herself for failing one of the most important people in her life. She is, here as in all other places, unsubtle with her emotional expression, wearing her heart on her sleeve as much as she might wish she could do otherwise. But she will not let her fear of failure keep her from acting. Still she keeps her grandfather’s words in her heart. That is the crux of Alisaie’s character: she cares. Even when she doesn’t want to, even when she thinks she’s above it, even when other people disdain her for it, she cares.

It is this love, this determination, that allows her to lead in developing a cure for the soul stagnation that occurs when someone is enthralled, or “tempered”, by a primal (or corrupted by the Light). She creates her familiar Angelo to assist with this task, and first to receive treatment are two children whose wellbeing has been constantly on her mind: a young boy tempered by the primal Titan after his parents were sacrificed as part of the summoning, and the boy Tesleen died trying to protect. She is not alone in developing this treatment, nor can she administer it alone. She would be the first to claim a lack of technological or intellectual aptitude, no matter how much her actions demonstrate otherwise. But without her fierce love and determination, it would not have been possible.

Throughout the story, the twins (and the Scions at large, most of whom are Sharlayan citizens) have faced potential reprisal from their homeland for their role in shaping global politics. The Scions are viewed as a dangerous, subversive element in Sharlayan society, and consequences finally arrive in the form of Fourchenault Leveilleur. Eorzea has requested Sharlayan aid in the fight against the Empire, and Fourchenault is here to deny them. When the twins speak up against his decision, he declares that they are no longer his children.

With their resolve already tested by their father’s rejection, the Scions face another terrifying potential failure when they, along with a contingent of soldiers and engineers from all across Eorzea, march into the heart of the Garlean Empire to offer aid to its people. Civil war has broken out and the country is devouring itself. Soldiers and civilians alike raised in the Empire have been fed propaganda about the “savages” all their lives, and prove nearly impossible to help. Outsiders offering aid cannot be trusted, as the twins learn when their attempt to reach out to a group of teenage Garleans leads to multiple deaths: two girls choosing to die in the frozen wasteland outside the capital rather than risk the help of the enemy. The twins are taken captive and their lives threatened, but both are still determined to reach the people they came here to help. They cannot save everyone, perhaps not even most, but there is still hope even in the face of an apocalypse.

The crisis only grows. The world’s aether is stagnating, people begin transforming into monstrous beasts, and an avatar of despair itself has made her nest at the end of the universe, singing a song that will end all suffering, and all life with it. With the efforts of all the Scions’ allies combined (including Fourchenault, who admits that his anger was rooted in fear and a desire to protect his children), they are able to pursue her. To a place where emotions dictate reality, where the only way forward is to triumph over despair and push on, but where each Scion must create a path forward with their life. Once again, the Scions fall one by one, and it is the twins and the Warrior who walk to the end.

Alisaie has fought throughout the entire story to be her own person apart from her family name and her brother’s connections. Again and again she has lost the people she loves to self-sacrifice, and now it is her turn. Fierce, passionate, idealistic to a fault, she stands with Alphinaud and confronts the being blocking their way. Together they forge one final way forward for the Warrior alone, who uses their own power to return the Scions to their bodies. They are resolved to face this final fight together, until the Warrior sends them all back to their ship to take on one last enemy alone.

Alisaie’s first action when the Warrior returns near-dead is to, while sobbing uncontrollably, admonish them for breaking their promise and leaving her again. She will not lose them anymore, no matter what. She will not let anyone leave her behind. Not when she has the power to do something about it.

Abilities: An immensely skilled red mage, able to wield both black (destructive) and white (healing) magicks along with being an accomplished swordswoman. While all red mages possess the capability for both types of magic, Alisaie leans heavily toward the destructive side. She is capable of healing in a pinch, but it’s not her specialty and beyond basic field medicine she’s not likely to be super useful. But if you need to unleash hell on someone, she has you covered. Her limit break, Vermillion Pledge, is her most notable spell: a spiraling chaos of red and black roses that shoots out in a straight line and does massive damage to anything in its path.
Noteworthy items: A pink crystalline rapier with matching “focus”. The focus combines with the rapier to form a staff when casting spells, and hovers above the off hand when using the rapier on its own. Her only other noteworthy possession is her familiar Angelo, a “porxie”: a pig with enormous ears with which it can fly and no hind legs, which can be summoned at will. Angelo is primarily used as a repository both for aether (magical energy) and a specific spell that essentially reverses stagnation of the soul.

PERMISSIONS (WIP)

☄ First Impressions

♚ VISUAL: Alisaie is a short, pale-skinned Elezen (FFXIV’s elves) with bright blue eyes. Her hair is white, scruffy on top with long bangs that can cover her eyes under some circumstances. The longer portion in the back is kept in a long, skinny but tidy braid tied with a red ribbon. She has a slim build and delicate features. She appears in her late teens or perhaps early twenties.

♚ FASHION: She favors red in her clothing, either as an accent or as the dominant color. Generally wears long sleeves and short shorts or skirts with tall white boots. Currently she is wearing her Endwalker outfit: a white romper with a red cropped jacket, but that is subject to change.

♚ DEMEANOR: Alisaie is the epitome of “though she be but little, she is fierce.” A little standoffish and slow to trust. Quick to offend, slow to forgive, though she’ll own up to her own mistakes. Has been known to intimidate people twice her size and knows it.

♚ SOUND: A mid-range clear voice with what Earth residents would perceive as a Received Pronunciation accent. Listeners from elsewhere would interpret it as an upper-crust, well-educated accent. She speaks quickly and decisively.

♚ MAGICAL INFORMATION: As a red mage, she’s adept with both curative and destructive magic, though her preference (and skill) is absolutely skewed toward the latter. Another magic user would likely be able to identify this. She carries a crystalline pink rapier with a matching “focus”, which hovers above her left hand in melee combat and can be combined with the rapier when casting.

☄ IC Permissions

♚ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: She’s very affectionate and caring with close friends, but wary of it with strangers.

♚ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: She’s always down for a good spar, and often shoots first and asks questions later.

♚ RELATIONSHIPS: Not actively looking but not opposed. She’s relatively inexperienced and has lost previous crushes in pretty tragic circumstances, so any relationship development will need to be slow or she’ll cut and run. Friendly flirting is absolutely welcome, anything more serious should be discussed in detail. She prefers women but is open to other possibilities if they get along well.

☄ OOC Permissions

♚ BACKTAGGING: Player has severe ADHD and works full-time, so it would be hypocritical of me to say no.

♚ FOURTHWALLING: Unlikely to happen with this canon, I’m not completely opposed, but ask first.

♚ TRIGGERS AND SQUICKS:
Absolutely no detailed descriptions of pregnancy. Other body horror is generally fine, but avoid tooth-related trauma. For NSFW subjects feel free to ask but I’m open to most things.
